Sometimes a little conscious effort to point ourselves in the right direction can transform how we experience the world.

So often we emphasise what we lack over what we possess.

Cultivating a practice of gratitude can be a beacon of light, guiding us towards a more fulfilled and joyful life. The more we look the more we find, and the more we find the more we attract.


The act of expressing gratitude is not just being polite but a powerful practice that can transform our lives in profound ways.

There are numerous benefits of incorporating a simple gratitude practice into our daily routine and it can lead to a happier, healthier, and more enriched life.


Enhances Well-being and Happiness

Studies have consistently shown that individuals who regularly practice gratitude report higher levels of happiness and well-being.

By focusing on the blessings in our lives, we shift our attention away from negative emotions and thoughts, fostering a positive mindset that enhances our overall happiness.

The more we look the more we see.

Encourages a Positive Outlook

Gratitude encourages us to focus on the positive aspects of our lives, promoting an optimistic outlook.

Who wouldn't want that?!

I mean, it's like a magic pill!

How to Cultivate a Gratitude Practice

Keep a Gratitude Journal:

The key to all these things is to keep it simple.

Every day I make a note of 5 things I'm grateful for on Notes on my phone. It’s always to hand so I can do it at anytime although I prefer to start the day with a cup of tea and my gratitude list.

It used to be 3 things, which after a while was hard to keep up but very soon I found that wasn’t enough as I was constantly noticing more things.

They can be big or small. My kids, seeing a robin, having eyesight. You soon run out of obvious things so it forces you to look for it in unexpected places or in everyday things. Like the sun or rain, or having hot water, or someone to love.

As of today I've been doing this continuously for 1485 days. (I put the day, date and no next to them so I can stay disciplined!).

If I ever miss a day, or a few, I make a point of backdating them. The more I miss the harder that is so I'm continuously looking for things to be grateful for!

Some more ideas:

Express Gratitude to Others: Make it a habit to verbally express thanks to the people in your life and to strangers. A simple "thank you" can go a long way.

Gratitude Reminders: Place visual cues in your environment that remind you to pause and appreciate the moment and the people around you. Noticing the time at 11:11 is a great cue! You'll start to spot it all over the place!

As we integrate gratitude into our daily lives, we open ourselves to a world of positive transformation.

The practice of gratitude is a journey—a path that leads to a more joyful, resilient, and connected life. Try it and see what happens.

This is an amazing book. Each chapter includes a painting. By reflecting on them with the author’s guidance, we learn how to live fully in the present moment and reap the rewards of doing so. It’s incredibly simple, beautiful, practical and accessible.



And these little gems from a series by Thich Nhat Hanh are simply beautiful and will fit in your pocket! He was one of the most inspirational people ever and passed away relatively recently.

Very short single paragraphs on each page with incredibly beautiful, simple and profound reflections to help guide you towards mindfulness. You can even read them sitting on the loo! Each page takes only 1-2 minutes to read but makes a deep imprint on your sense of well being.

This book was the start of my mindfulness training over 10 years ago. Recommended to me by my first amazing meditation teacher. Practical lessons in mindfulness from one of the leading authorities in the world, Professor Mark Williams from Oxford University. Incudes a step by step guide to accessing mindfulness through meditations such as “the chocolate meditation” and “the body scan”. Two personal favourites to this day!

I’d also recommend guided meditations. I’m a massive fan of the Insight Timer App. It has 220,000 free tracks!
