Winners Use Coaches: How Life Coaching Helped Me Smash Outrageous Goals

Have you ever wondered what separates those who smash incredible goals and those who remain stuck?

It’s not just luck or talent—it's mindset and belief and often it’s coaching that unlocks that.

How many of the amazing athletes at the Paris Olympics got there without a coach?

Yup, NONE!

It took me a while to discover this myself.

I was already a successful CEO at the top of my game, living what many including myself would call the dream life.

But even then, something was missing. I wasn’t truly happy. I was unfit, unhealthy, stressed, drinking too much and not looking after my well being.

I needed change.

I had no idea what life coaching was, but when I found it at the age of 53, a whole portal of possibilities opened up.

It gave me the clarity and confidence to set and smash outrageous goals.

Finding a coach changed my life in ways I never could have predicted.

My Coaching Journey: The Power of Clarity and Confidence

When I started working with an amazing life coach, I realised that my success as a CEO didn’t mean I was living my best life.

I was achieving externally, but I wasn’t connected to my deeper purpose, joy, or sense of balance.

I wasn't truly present, connected, or even happy.

Coaching helped me step back and re-evaluate what I really wanted from life.

As part of the process, I ended up setting three audacious life goals, and coaching helped me smash each one of them.

1st Goal: If there was no chance of failure:

Give Up Being a CEO and Find Work That Connected Me to Purpose, Balance, and Joy

I knew that I wanted more than just professional success—as much as I've loved my journey, I wanted a career that truly aligned with my core values.

Coaching gave me the clarity and support to step down from my role as a CEO and begin work that felt meaningful to me.

Now, as a life purpose coach, I help others achieve incredible things in their lives. I’m doing work that serves others and fills me with a sense of purpose every day. It couldn't be more rewarding.

I have clients all over the world stepping into their dream lives. Some examples:

  • One has refocused his business to what he truly loves and is moving with his family to Ibiza. His dream life is coming true.

  • Another is moving from the US to a beautiful property in France and setting up as an independent consultant after a lifetime of leading creative teams in $Bn+ businesses. A step into the unknown as master of his own destiny that is reconnecting him to his passions and truly energising his zest for life.

  • Yet another, with my coaching and mentorship, is more than quadrupling the size of her business with a view to me helping her sell it.

There a so many amazing examples. What an incredibly rewarding privilege to facilitate these stunning transformations.

2nd Goal: A physical goal:

Swimming Island to Island in Greece

This goal was inspired by a friend’s swimming holiday in Greece.

The only problem? I couldn’t swim. I'd tried to learn many times but failed. But that didn’t stop me.

I set the truly outrageous goal to swim between islands in Greece, and my journey led me through ice baths, wild swimming, mountain climbing, pack rafting, mad wilderness expeditions sleeping on top of mountains and islands.

None of which I'd ever done before! In fact I hated cold and have a camper van as I refused to sleep in a tent!

Last year I swam 6km in a Devon estuary and in various seas, rivers, and lakes. I've more than smashed it.

I’ve even randomly learned to do handstands along the way!

This goal became so much more than just swimming; it became about pushing my limits and stepping into the unknown but being present and loving the journey. That way I had no reason to give up!

I’ve even launched a microadventure coaching option to help others experience similar transformations.

3rd Goal: To bring a smile to my face:

Dancing in Public Without the need for copious amounts of alcohol!

This one was truly the hardest.

I’d never danced in public without a few (lots…) drinks to loosen up, and yet, I wanted to be able to dance freely, alcohol-free. To express the joy I'm now so connected to.

It felt impossible.

But randomly, on the Wednesday I had a dance lesson my wife bought me 18 months previously. I'd been putting it off all that time but it was magical. I started it blindfolded to get over my incredible performance anxiety!

On the Thursday I was at a coaching event that began with dancing! And I was ready.

I went on to dance on the Saturday for 3.5 hours at a silent disco in Regent’s Park and another 3.5 hours at a Sufi rave in London the following Thursday, fuelled purely by cacao and JOY!

Achieving this goal was about much more than dancing—it was about stepping into a new way of being, embracing vulnerability, and learning to live fully and joyfully.

The Benefits of Life Coaching

Life coaching didn’t just help me set and achieve these goals—it completely transformed the way I approach life.

Here are some key benefits of working with a life coach:

Clarity and Confidence

Coaching helps you clear the mental clutter and get crystal-clear on what you really want. Once you have that clarity, the confidence to pursue your goals follows.

Accountability and Support

Having someone to hold you accountable is invaluable. A coach will keep you on track, ensuring you take the steps needed to move forward. They provide a safe, non-judgemental space and the support you need to connect to flow, making achieving your goals easier.

Setting Audacious Goals

Life coaching isn’t about settling for what feels safe—it’s about setting outrageous goals and figuring out how to achieve them with compassionate, deliverable steps.

Breaking Through Limiting Beliefs

Before I started coaching, I had no idea how much my own beliefs were holding me back. A life coach helps you uncover those beliefs, challenge them, and replace them with empowering thoughts that open up new possibilities.

The Power of Action and Momentum

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned through coaching is that action creates momentum. It doesn’t matter if you’re ready or not—take the first step, and the next one will follow. Through consistent action, I’ve been able to build the life I always wanted, one that connects me to purpose, balance, and joy.
